About Us
Beginner Electronics is dedicated to educational information about PIC microcontrollers and the tools required to program them. Our aim is to show enthusiasts the critical information needed to get them started in hopes of avoiding much of the frustration that can happen while trying to get even the simplest project going. There are plenty of places on the net to get this type of information but for the most part, it’s scattered all over the place. Our goal here at Beginner Electronics is be a single source of the information and tools needed to get you started. So in this site you’ll find information that is pretty focused. Beginner Electronics is not intended to be all things to all people. Our goal is to get you the information you need to get going and after that you can browse the other sites as you begin to master the concepts presented here.
In a nutshell, the content on this site will consist of programming PIC Microcontrollers with C and Basic. Assembly language will be covered occasionally, but only in those instances where it really makes sense. We will stick with one PIC as much as possible. The 16F690 has plenty of features for us to explore and since it comes with the PICkit 2, it makes sense to start there. If your PICkit 2 didn’t come with a 16F690 and you want to follow along, you can get the chip at MicrochipDirect.com. We will occasionally point you to books and tools that we’ve found to be particularly helpful as well. Nothing high priced though! For many of us, this is a hobby and high price emulators and scopes, while nice to have, aren’t always necessary.
So if you’ve been frustrated trying to understand what you need to get going, please take a little time to browse this site. If you think of a good topic that I haven’t covered yet, drop us a note, and we’ll consider putting something together for it.
Thanks
